A brief account of the history of explorations and taxonomic studies on vascular plants in Bengal is presented. The bibliography has about 500 references and includes most of the literature on the flora and vegetation of Bengal and some related topics. It is a step towards preparing the revised floras of the state of West Bengal and Bangledesh.
