Some Aspects of Vegetation of Ramagiri and its Immediate Neighbourhood

Ramagiri is situated about 40 km to the southwest of Bangalore on the banks of river Arkavati between 12° 15'-12° 47' N lat. and 77° 15'-77° 20' E long. Several collection trips were made to this locality, which does not figure in the botanical literature. The vegetation of this region is of scrub jungle type with an open canopy, and grasslands. The collections made include 340 species in 244 genera belonging to 68 families.

Alternanthera echinata Sm., A. polygonoides (Linn.) R. Br., Rivina humilis Linn., Solarium seaforthianum T. Andr. and Tithonia diversifolia A. Gray., are not mentioned in Gamble's Flora of Madras.
