The Therria Sandstone of Eocene age includes sandstones, shale, carbonaceous shale, coal seam and clay. Petrographically Therria Sandstone is mainly a micaceous quartizite, whose constituents were derived from an igneous terrain. A slight admixture of clastic material transported from low rank metamorphic and older sedimentary rocks is found. The provenance area was not far from the depositional site. Environmental interpretation based on bivariate grain size parameter plottings is not an effective tool since conflicting results are obtained. The deposition took place mainly by tractive current possibly in fluvial channel, The clastic materials were cemented by calcite, iron and silica of which calcite dominates over the others.- Clays of Assam and Meghalaya, a Physico-Chemical Study
