Abstract
Volcatlic area has special hydrological characteristics such as scanty overland runoff, abundant springs, large storage capacity and long residence time of groundwater. A methodology of groundwater field survey is discussed taking Aso volcanoes in Japan as an example. Utility of stream network analysis, remote sensing techniques, numerical simulation and isotope techniques are shown with examples.
