An analysis of microfacies and microsequence of the rocks of the Semri Series (Lower Vindhyan System), in the southeast of Banda, Uttar Pradesh, is presented. The analysis reveals that these rocks were deposited contemporaneously in three laterally juxtaposed environmental belts, namely, the supratidal, the intertidal and the subtidal. The vertical sequence, now representing the Semri Series, developed as a result of the seaward progradation of the environmental belts in response to a general regressive phase of the depositional basin.
