Save for deviation due to the complex crypto-textures, the Vickers hardness (Hv) increases from magnetite, then to maghemite and considerably in hematite. The deviation of Vickers hardness from the comparative graph of a particular mineral species can be accounted for by the presence in the sample of other mineral species (not identifiable under 400 magnification) and also by the variations in crypto-textural dimensions.

Abstract

Save for deviation due to the complex crypto-textures, the Vickers hardness (Hv) increases from magnetite, then to maghemite and considerably in hematite. The deviation of Vickers hardness from the comparative graph of a particular mineral species can be accounted for by the presence in the sample of other mineral species (not identifiable under 400 magnification) and also by the variations in crypto-textural dimensions.
