This present work is based on extensive survey on native ornamental fishes of Damodar River System from some selected sites for four years. The analys is of data reveals that Damodar river houses a good number of ornamental fishes, it includes, 37 indigenous ornamental fish species belonging to 32 genera, 16 families and 9 orders. Among all the fishes collected, order Cypriniformes shows the maximum species (24 species) followed by Siluriformes (4 species). The present study reveals that Gagata itchkeea (Family Sisoridae) which is reported as vulnerable as well as decreasing population by IUCN (2020) occurs in all seasons throughout the study period. Chanda nama (Family Ambassidae) has been recorded in all seasons except in the premonsoon season of 2018-2019, although IUCN red list category (2020) mentioned the species as decreasing population. The study identified the natural breeding grounds in upper valley, middle valley and lower valley. Thus, the study advocates for setting priorities toward conservation of those breeding grounds.
