The urinary proteins belong to the large family of carrier proteins called as lipocalins are generally known as carrier proteins, binding a large variety of small hydrophobic molecules (or) ligands An attempt was made in the present investigation to identify the urinary proteins in the house rat (Rattus rattus).

Our previous investigation revealed that the normal male mice urine contained five unique volatile constituents namely, 3- cyclohexene-1-methanol (I), 3-amino triazole (II), 4-ethyl phenol (III), 3-ethyl 2,7 dimethyl octane (IV) and I-iodoundecan (V) (Achiraman and Archunan, 2002). An attempt was made to understand the concentration of lipid in bovine urine during various reproductive phases and to correlate with testosterone profiles. The lipid content was found to be varied in the urine of all the bovine reproductive stages. The bovine urine of pre-ovulatory phase showed a remarkable decrease in lipid concentration than all other reproductive phases. Similarly, in the pregnant urine there was a decreasing trend. However, the maximum level of lipid was found throughout the lactation period with peak on early lactating when compared to that of all other reproductive stages.- Evaluation of the Ability of Mouse to Detect Estrus in Buffalo Urine
