Effect of Naphthalene on Lactate and Pyruvate of a Marine Edible Crab Scylla serrata

The effect of Naphthalene on lactic acid and pyruvic acid was studied in ovary of the crab Scylla serrata with reference to ovarian maturation. The ovarian lactic and pyruvic acid level of Scylla serrata when reared in naphthalene free medium was 48.66, 67.33,90.66,75.99 and 43.99 μg/100mg wet tissue and 5.52,5.60,10.92,8.33,6.66 and 6.51 mg/100mg wet tissue at stage I, II, III, IV, V and VI ovary respectively. Both lactate and pyruvate were increased in all ovarian stages when crabs reared in 0.20mg/litre naphthalene concentration.
