The fresh seeds of isabgol variety RI-87 were subjected to 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105,120 and 135 Kr doses at Co60 gamma-rays and lab as well as field experiment was carried out during rabi 2002-03 and 2003-04. The effects of gamma-rays were studied on different parameters such as germination percent, seedling height, seedling dry weight and pollen fertility in M1 generation and frequency and spectrum of chlorophyll and viable mutants, mutagenic efficiency and effectiveness in M2 generation with employing nine doses of gamma-rays and one control. Reduction of germination, seeding height, seedling dry weight and pollon fertility in the M1 generation was observed with increases doses of gamma-rays. In general the frequencies of chlorophyll mutations increased in linear fashion at low and medium doses and were erratic reduction at higher doses. The spectrum of chlorophyll mutants included albina, xantha, chlorina, viridis, tigrina and others. The frequency of these mutants varied with treatments. The 105 kR doses of gamma-rays produce highest frequency of viable mutants. Occurrence of major viable mutants from seedling to adult growth stages were varied viz., broad and narrow leaves, paired spikes, coxcomb spikes, ball mutants, gappy spikes, partial and complete sterile. A dose rate of 90 kR and 105 kR were most effective as well as efficient treatments. Keywords

The present investigation was carried out using 26 diverse genotypes including 3 checks. The genotypes were planted in Randomized Block Design with three replications during Rabi, 2010-2011 at Research Farm, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur. The observations were recorded on ten randomly selected plants and estimation of different variability parameters and magnitude of correlation co-efficient among different traits in Isabgol (Plantago ovata L. Forsk). Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among the genotypes for all the characters suggesting sufficient amount of variability in the experimental material under study. High GCV coupled with high heritability and expected genetic gain of a character provides good selection advantage. There is a substantial scope for improvement of number of florets per plant, total soluble sugar, number of effective tillers per plant and seed yield per plant. Selection for these characters would be effective in selection of suitable genotype for Isabgol improvement. Association study indicated that seed yield per plant was positively and significantly correlated at both genotypic and phenotypic level with number of tillers per plant and 1000 seed weight, whereas swelling factor showed positive significant correlation with seed yield per plant only at genotypic level. These associations indicated that improvement in seed yield can be achieved by improving the characters for further breeding programme. Keywords

A field experiment was carried out using twenty genotypes of cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) walp] at Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur during 2008-09 treated with two Bradyrhizobium strains. Association studies revealed that seed yield per plant showed significant positive co-rrelation with pods per plant in all the environments, biological yield (E1 and E2), harvest index (E1 and E3), protein content (E3), days to maturity, nodule fresh weight and nitrogen content in (E3), most of these characters were also mutually correlated. Path analysis studies for seed yield revealed direct and indirect contribution of biological yield, harvest index, branches per plant, plant height and number of nodules (E1), pods per plant, nodule fresh weight, protein content and nodule dry weight (E2), nodule dry weight, branches per plant, protein content and plant height (E3). While the protein content revealed direct as well as indirect contribution of biological yield, number of nodules, harvest index, 100 seed weight and nodule fresh weight (E1), number of nodules, seed yield per plant, leghaemoglobin content and nitrogen content in (E2), seed yield per plant, harvest index, number of nodules and nodule fresh weight in (E3).Keywords
