Abstract
Because malnutrition is widespread in many developing countries, in some, large-scale national nutrition programmes have been undertaken to reduce its incidence among young children, pregnant women and nursing mothers. But the most severely malnourished children are often not being reached by these to identify them, medical and paramedical manpower is limited and because inadequate communications and remoteness make many villages relatively inaccessible.
