Abstract

The relationship between plasma amino acid levels of systemic blood and protein quality has been studied in several species of animals. Charkey et al and Richardson et al measured arginine, lysine, methionine, tryptophan and valine in the plasma of chicks fed diets containing soyabean meal and peanut meal or other proteins for six weeks.

Abstract

We have recently studied the effect of different levels of gram and lentil protein on the liver and blood lipids of rabbits. The animals receiving Bengal gram and lentil at 12 per cent level for eight weeks showed increased contents of liver lipids and cholesterol with a concomitant decrease in phospholipid level in liver.

Abstract

The effects of different levels of dietary proteins and of protein quality on lipid metabolism have been investigated in experimental animals. Kokatnur et al reported that increased levels of dietary protein were associated with decreased serum cholesterol levels in the chicks. Seidal et al reported that the addition of either protein or sulphur containing amino-acids to low protein diet will decrease serum cholesterol in the hyper-cholestemic rat.
