This manual is designed to offer simple guidelines for the treatment of severe Protein-Enery Malnutrition (PEM). In spite of all the progress made in this field, children presenting severe forms of marasmus, kwashiorkor, and marasmic kwashiorkor are still dying at a very high rate, even when they are hospitalized This is an unacceptable situation in view of present knowledge.
