Nutritional anaemia is defined as the condition in which the haemoglobin content of the blood is lower than the normal as a result of a deficiency of one or more essential nutrients. Iron deficiency anaemia affects the physical capacity by reducing the availability of oxygen to the tissues which inturn affects cardiac output and the heart eventually leading to death in severe cases. Nutritional iron deficiency anaemia is more prevalent among young women, than is generally supposed and is bound to interfere with health, preparation for pregnancy and work efficiency.
