The Global Tomorrow Coalition (GTA 1981) was organized in May 1981 on the initiative of Russell W. Peterson, who was widely known in public affairs. At that time he was President of the Audubon Society of America. Its formation came as an almost spontaneous response on the part of many organizations outside of Government that were concerned with population, resources, and environment.
