Isoflavones are found abundantly in soyabean though small quantities also occur in cabbage, grains, chickpeas and lentils. Belonging to the polyphenol family, isoflavones structurally similar to mammalian estrogens are able to synthesize estrogens in animal and human organisms; thus described as phytoestrogens.
