Performing Colonial and Post-Colonial Parley:A Study of Athol Fugard’s Valley Song

The domain of Literature is a boundless ocean of intellectual negotiations, philosophical ponderings, spiritual insights and quotidian reflections that simultaneously entertains and empowers human minds. The mighty role of the writer’s pen contains in itself the radar-like capacity to translate his intuitive perceptions into words of imminent change. Drama, as a vibrant genre of literature, has the extraordinary quality to enliven and impact its audience through the immediacy of its performance on stage. The objective of this research paper titled Performing Colonial and Post-Colonial Parley: A Study of Athol Fugard’s Valley Song is to analyze how Athol Fugard, a South African white playwright incorporated experimental theatrical techniques not only to showcase his theatrical expertise but also to articulate his voice of protest against the socio-political power-block of apartheid that dismantles the lives of the colored population even after the end of the colonial period.
