This cross discipline narrative inquiry describes my assignment to form a collaborative mentoring relationship with a seven year old boy for his return to school after a year absence. Simon, as I call him, lives in shades and sounds of autism and my inquiry includes reflective encounters with Simon and arts-integrated, evolving approaches around cultural voices of autism and learning and knowing that challenge artistic expression. My reflection is accompanied by a photo/sound-scape and invites re-viewing of my voice as mentor and poet/photographer/musician.

Abstract

This cross discipline narrative inquiry describes my assignment to form a collaborative mentoring relationship with a seven year old boy for his return to school after a year absence. Simon, as I call him, lives in shades and sounds of autism and my inquiry includes reflective encounters with Simon and arts-integrated, evolving approaches around cultural voices of autism and learning and knowing that challenge artistic expression. My reflection is accompanied by a photo/sound-scape and invites re-viewing of my voice as mentor and poet/photographer/musician.
