The Inclusion of the Visually Impaired in Film Experience
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Using two Nollywood films as examples, this study critically assesses the level of inclusion of the visually impaired in Cinema experience. The study assumes that the experience of the visually impaired in all popular cinemas is the same. The study then, answers two questions; (1) What is Nollywood, factors underlying its growth, weakness, prospect and sentiments towards or against the visually impaired? (2) Is it possible to improve the quality of Nollywood and other classes of films and their ability to reach visually impaired? Using three hundred and sixty visually impaired Nigerians as sample representing the five million visually impaired persons resident in the six Geopolitical zone that make up the Nigerian nation, the study analyzed data by using two Nollywood films-"Confidence" and "The Wages of Sin" which were some of Nollywood's most popular films of all times.
