The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the sealing ability to obturate oval canals with three thermoplasticized guttapercha obturation techniques taking lateral condensation technique as the control. Ninety-five freshly extracted teeth were decoronated at2mmcoronal to CEJ. Biomechanical preparation was done using step back technique. The teeth were divided into three experimental groups of 30 teeth each and one control group of 5 teeth. The group I (control group) was obturated with lateral condensation technique, group II obturated with injectable thermoplasticized guttapercha technique, group III obturated with thermoplasticized guttapercha with downpack and backfill technique and group IV obturated with core carrier thermoplasticized guttapercha technique. The sealability of each technique was assessed by a dye penetration method. The ischolar_mains were given two full layers of nail polish varnish except apical 2mm. Specimens were then immersed in India ink for 48 hours. Robertson's technique was used to clear the specimens. The linear dye penetration was measured from anatomic apex to the deepest extent of dye penetration in a coronal direction using triocular stereomicroscope at 10 x magnification. The mean dye leakage of group I was 2.6700mm; group II 0.1713mm; group III 3.3977mm; group IV 2.3210mm . When the means of all the four groups were compared using KruskalWallis test the difference was found to be very highly significant with the value<.001**, meaning there by that group II is significantly better than the other three groups as far as sealing ability is concerned.Keywords

Thus, there is a need to replace the lost teeth and the supporting structures for the patient's social demands and functional rehabilitation. Prosthetic treatment with complete dentures is a very common treatment modality; the biggest challenge in its fabrication is to duplicate the normal vertical dimension. Failure can be avoided by completing the treatment without changing the vertical dimension and obtaining an optimal facial proportion. There are many methods to record VD. Radiographic cephalometry has been used as a diagnostic tool in Prosthodontics for over five decades and numerous authors, like Ricketts (1981), McNamara (1984) and Slavicek (1984) developed and computerized these techniques to co-relate and record VD in patients. However cephalometric analysis can help to visualize skeletal and facial proportion relation. The present study was done to use the lateral radiographs with cephalometric analysis, as it could be a simple, non-technique sensitive, non-invasive and atraumatic way to determine VD for complete denture patients and also to compare physiologic methods (swallowing/phonetics) with cephalometric method to record lower facial height.Keywords

Materials and method: Forty tooth preparations were carried out over extracted mandibular molars. They were divided into two groups A and B of 20 each. For group A Co-Cr copings were fabricated by direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) and for group B by lost wax technique (LW). Glass-ionomer cement (GIC) was used to tack the copings over their preparations. Marginal fit was then evaluated directly under the stereomicroscope.
Results: The mean marginal gap of group A was 27.9±2.4 μm and group B was 40.4 μm. Statistical analysis using t-test showed highly significant difference (P>.05) between the marginal mean of the DMLS (group A) compared to LW (group B).
Conclusion: The DMLS copings demonstrated superior marginal fit compared to that of conventional Co-Cr casted copings.
