The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) through its 37 laboratories provides a unique platform to the young scientists to pursue state-of-the-art research in the diverse disciplines of science and technology. This article examines the research output of scientists nominated for CSIR Young Scientist Award and its recipients during the period 2010-2013, based on their publications and citations. Though all the nominees are accomplished scientists, total research papers published and citations received per paper are in general higher in case of the awardees. Furthermore, awards received by a laboratory in disciplines other than its domain area indicates interdisciplinary research approach of the CSIR laboratories. Keywords

The recipients of Swarnajayanti Fellowship (1997–2016) are associated with only 23 different R&D institutions across India and are mostly from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs); Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru; Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai and Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) laboratories. The pattern shows that 43% of Swarnajayanti Fellows (SJFs) are also recipients of the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize. The study reveals that 70% of SJFs with doctoral training under the supervision of Bhatnagar awardees are the recipients of the SSB Prize followed by 66% with foreign Ph Ds and 52% with Indian Ph Ds. IISc and CSIR laboratories have the distinction that all SJFs with doctoral training under the supervision of Bhatnagar awardees are recipients of the SSB Prize, while TIFR has the most with foreign Ph D.Keywords

Our earlier studies showed that Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) prize winners have been recognized as Fellows of the Royal Society (FRS), Foreign Associates of the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and Fellows of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for their outstanding scientific achievements. Here we look at the SSB prize recipients awarded with TWAS prize which is ranked among the highest scientific accolades bestowed on outstanding scientists in developing countries.References

Three institutions, viz. Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru) and National Institute of Immunology (New Delhi) dominate the number of recipients of the National Bioscience Award. The analysis revealed that Jadavpur University (Kolkata) has not won the National Bioscience Award compared to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and the National Institute of Immunology. Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru) is the most balanced. The mobility analysis showed that most of the National Bioscience awardees were mobile after obtaining their Ph Ds/MDs. Of all the 140 National Bioscience awardees between 1999 and 2016, 37 of them are also recipients of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize. Moreover, a large number of awardees also became fellows of national science academies in the period 0–5 years after receiving the National Bioscience Award. Keywords

Election to the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) as fellow is one of the highest professional distinctions accorded solely to academic inventors worldwide. Since 2012, a total of 1060 NAI fellows have been inducted. They hold more than 38,000 US patents, which have generated around 11,000 licensed technologies. Based on NAI fellow discoveries, more than 36 million jobs and over $1.6 trillion in revenue have been generated1.References
