Since 1961, the country's population has nearly doubled to 844 million and the food grains production has kept up with the ushering in of the green revolution in mid-sixties in the cereals like wheat, rice, maize, jowar, bajra, etc. The component of pulses has however, lagged due to near-stagnancy in its production while the cooking medium of oil seeds has a moderate growth with a growth rate of 1 1/2 cent per annum well below the compound growth rate of population of 2.20 percent per annum.- Emerging Problems of Agricultural Marketing in Karnataka by Shri R.S. After years of grim dullness, the European polity is producing so many sensations totally unpredictable developments - that it is hard to pick the biggest. Who would have thought, for instance, death of communism in the Eastern block and rebirth of democracy? Who would have thought that Soviet empire in the East? Who would have thought that Soviet Union and its Warsaw pact - cousins would begin their journey to a common European home? Who would have thought that the great communist countries like the Soviet Union would uphold the sanctity of market? And yet, we are curious witnesses to spectacle of aevelopments happening in the central and eastern Europe at break-neck-speed - Tearing the East-West division and the post-1945 order of political stability.- Introduction

Income, saving and investment are three key variables of the economy of a country. While investment is the sine qua non of the economic development, it is saving which provides the wherewithal for investment. The level of income is also an important variable as it determines saving and investment whereas past investment in capital goods in turn determines the present level of income.- Rural Electrification in Maharashtra

Development of infrastructural facilities is an essential condition for rapid economic growth of a region or of an economy in any developing country. Rural electrification is one such aspect of infrastructural development which makes the situation conducive to the expansion and intensification of the economic activity in rural area. Like most other infrastructural facilities the generation and distribution of electricity in India today is also the responsibility of the public authority.- The Marathwada Region

Multi-level planning currently enjoys wide acceptance in planning for economic development of large economies with a wide range of diversity in resources and institutional set-up. The approach merits particular relevance when due to· historical circumstances, the national economy is inflicted with economic and technological dualism divding it into modern leading regions confined to metropolitan areas with impulses of growth and vast lagging regions which remain more or less isolated from the forces of development.- Regional Input-Output Matrioes

The theory of economic development has largely evolved without taking into consideration explicitly the element of space. The emphasis has been on the growth of national economy and its sectors. The development process is studied on the basis of shifts of the relative shares of different sectors and its sub-groups and the interrelationships among st them at the national level.- A Structural Study of India's Trade Dependence (1956-75)

The period beginning with 1951 happens to be a crucial one in India's economic history. It marks the beginning of the era of planning. A popularly elected government went in for massive development effort allocating public resources and directing private resources in accordance with pre-determined social priorities. This process has continued for nearly thirty years. It is important to know the impact of the pattern of economic growth during this period on the external trade relations. This is the main focus of this study.- Data on Land-Holdings in India

For the formulation of the land-policy and the programme of its implementation, statistical data relating to the manner in which the landownership and its operation are distributed assume primary importance. Unfortunately the data concerning landownership and operation suffer from two defects: Even the best possible data become outdated as the ownership and operation of land change very fast either by succession, transfers, etc., or by leasing and sub-leasing.- An Input-Out Table of the Indian Economy for 1959

For the sake of facilitating analytical work, the corresponding input coefficients' matrix and the inverse of the Leontief matrix are both prepared end presented here in Tables 2 and 3 respectively.- Food Deficit and Commercial Crops of Gujarat

The factual data presented in the foregoing pages regarding the villages in the community project area in Kolhapur speak for themselves. The community as a whole consisted largely of Marathas and Scheduled Castes, and could be said to be a homogeneous one. Information regarding income, housing, sanitary conditions, clothing and household things of persons and families in the project villages showed that the level of living in these villages was quite low, We have of course no comparative data from non-project villages, but the knowledge we have in regard to the rural conditions outside the community project area in Kolhapur, leads us to believe that the picture of conditions here was not different. The community project had not brought about any marked increase in the levels of living.- Referees
