Vertisol Watershed Research in the Semi-Arid Tropics: Directions for Impact Assessment

The application of watershed management research in semi-arid tropics of India has been well researched at International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (lCRISAT). The present paper is a review of watershed development technology and its benefits accrued to the farmers in the semiarid tropics as reflected in the research work of ICRISAT. The paper focuses on the technology, as well as, the benefits flowing from the watershed technology as visualised in various ICRISAT studies. Apartfrom the analysis the paper draws a few lessons from the experiences gathered from the studies conducted by ICRISAT.
