Abstract

This paper analyses the qualitative performance of microfinance services in Urban Punjab as perceived by the beneficiaries. The success of microfinance in achieving its social objectives, effectiveness of the systems, role of HR and the ultimate impact it has on its customers has been taken into consideration. For this, the customers were asked to fill the questionnaires and a comparison of formal and informal service providers was made. The factor analysis technique followed by weighted average score ranked the various performance indicators. Even though the loan policies of formal channels were found favorable, they could not transform the status of the poor.

Abstract

The paper is an empirical attempt to analyze the perception of individual investors of stock market of Punjab towards investing in fixed deposits. For the purpose, the factors affecting the decisions of individual stock investors to invest in fixed deposits were gauged. A pre-tested, well structured questionnaire which was administered personally and the responses of 241 respondents are analyzed. The responses have been analyzed with the help of Factor Analysis applied to group variables into identifiable categories. Variables could be grouped into ten factors with the help of factor analysis influencing investors to invest in fixed deposits i.e. Probable Benefits Factor, Others' Recommendations Factor, Market Indicators Factor, Integrity Factor, Saving Benefit Factor, Security Needs Factor, Social reasons Factor, Services Factor, Herd effects Factor and Personal financial needs Factor. The current research will be helpful to bank intermediaries and financial advisors in understanding the attitude of individual stock investors and offering them advice as per their state of mind.

Abstract

E-Banking has emerged as a channel to provide banking services to customers electronically via banks’ websites. Although e-banking services have gained a lot of attention due to its enormous advantages, many consumers are still not willing to use them because of the risk involved in conducting transactions online, hidden charges, lack of trust and system failure. There is a plethora of research conducted on the positive utility gains attributable to e-banking adoption or usage but the measures of potential negative utility (perceived risk) have been ignored. In the present study, the diverse literature available worldwide on perceived risk factors in e-banking has been explored by using interpretative approach, viz. objectives, research methodology, sample, respondents and the results of the study for further enquiry. This study builds up a strong conceptual framework for the researchers by thoroughly analyzing the empirical studies on perceived risk in different countries. The current research adds value to the existing literature and also leads to discussion addressing further areas for open debate and research. Our approach has meaningful implications for managing risk in the e-banking sector. The banks should put more emphasis on implementing e-banking risk management practices in order to increase usage of e-banking services among consumers.
